Sewn Candy Dishes

These distinctive treat baskets lend handmade charm to parties or picnics. Fill them with candy, nuts, or other bite-sized foods, then top your treats with simple leaf accents cut from paper and scored with a bone folder.

On a photocopier, enlarge templates below 400%. Trim to preferred shape (choose curved or scalloped edge and five- or six-sided bottom) and punch holes in templates with screw punch. Glue together two sheets of craftstock in different colors and burnish with bone folder. Trace templates and holes onto this two-sided craftstock; cut out and punch holes.

Using our craft ruler and bone folder, score and fold the vertical edges of each side piece 4 inch from the edge, and all edges of the bottom piece 3/8 inch from the edge, as shown. Thread baker’s twine through a large needle and knot end; stitch sides and bottom together, knotting the twine at the end of each finished edge.
